There is often a mismatch between what we think is going on, and what is actually happening. 

We all look at the world through different lenses. Our individual perspectives, experiences and beliefs affect our thought processes - what we observe, how we interpret and respond to events.

This is especially apparent when dealing with complex systems, as there may be hundreds of interacting components. Not only do we have to contend with our individual biases, assumptions, and limitations, but we also must pry apart the system into comprehendible chunks whilst still considering each with respect to the whole! A realistic yet holistic understanding can be incredibly tough to reach.

We question if we can improve the alignment between our thinking and reality. Can we realistically understand a system as a whole – through internal interrelations and processes – rather than just recognising surface level events?

This course explores some common human thinking errors, introduces systems and presents useful tools and thinking for better understanding complex systems.
